Don't eat yellow snow.
With only this advice, Jerry didn’t quite no what to expect from his class, obscurely called “Story Telling for New Media.” Being the first day, and having (of course) failed to glance at the list of required texts, 21 year-old Jerry Parvin had no expectations, and quite a few questions. He had emailed a friend of his who had taken the course before, asking for advice on how to get ahead, make a good enough grade, and still not worry about working to much. His only cryptic reply was just that: Don’t eat yellow snow.
Like every other day, he abused his alarm clock’s snooze button to the nth degree, up until ten minutes before class started. Donning a hooded sweatshirt and a pair of comfortable, baggy jeans and sneakers, he walked hurriedly to class, grabbing a banana on his way out the door of the on-campus apartment. Without remembering to lock the door, he trudged to class. His first instinct was to eat the banana, which he did with mild enthusiasm, for Jerry knew one could never truly appreciate food while walking, whether the cuisine was quite plain and utilitarian or exquisite and flavorful. The banana was soon finished; the peel thrown into a trash can on the way into the building that supposedly housed his class. Looking to the left and the right, he could never figure out what crack addict designed the numbering scheme to the room, and was forever confused as to what room he should be in at the beginning of the semester. Referencing the paper in his left hand, he then grasped the correct door with his right. Little did he know, he would enter that room, and enter a completely different world, where nothing was really what it would seem, books became alive, video games were used as provocative, emotional narratives, and Super Dave was the sovereign king over the universe of New Media.
